Scripture Sunday

For you did not receive a spirit that makes

you a slave again to fear,

but you received the Spirit of adoption

by whom we cry out "Abba, Father."

Romans 8:15

God wants to have a close and personal relationship with Him. He wants us to be intimate with Him!

When you pray, God wants us to forget all the formalities, and just call Him "Daddy".

This is for us so that we can remember that we are God's beloved children. And when we call out to "Daddy God" we will find ourselves in His strong, loving arms, delivering and protecting us.

God told me I can call Him "Daddy!" That means I am a daughter of the most High God and King! I'm a princess!

My sisters, take your place as God's daughter, call out to our Daddy God!

Scripture Sunday

And when the dew fell on the camp

in the night,

the manna fell on it.

Numbers 11:9

Night speaks of the darkest moments in our life. In our darkest moments God still supplies His "manna,"
His grace.

Lately, I have gone through some of those dark moments in my life. And I've worried that I would never see the light. But, this scripture came at a timely moment and reminded me that God supplies His "manna," His grace.

It reminded me that I need to stop worrying and trying to sort things out on my own. Instead, let God be God. His grace for me falls fresh every day. His mercies are new every morning and will see me through the darkest nights!

Scripture Sunday

Casting all your care upon Him,

for He cares for  you.

1Peter 5:7

If you have a worry or distraction...that is a care, give it to God. He wants to take all our cares. He wants us to be carefree, to enjoy life, not be burdened down by it.

Think of your care as a hot potato. When something comes against you, instead of holding onto it and letting it torment or worry you, throw it to God. He can handle it.

Our God is an awesome God. There is not any problem to big for Him. And He wants you to throw all your cares to Him.

Let's live carefree!

Scripture Sunday!

So we don't look at the troubles
we have right now;
rather, we look forward to
what we have not yet seen.
For the troubles we see will soon be over,
but the joys to come will last forever.
2 Corinthians 4:18

Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the troubles
that are going on around us.
But, it's important to keep our focus on
what matters most.

Have a blessed week!

Weekly Finish!

I am so glad to say that I got a finish this week!
I haven't got to spend much time sewing this week, due to moving for my job. I'm glad that we're settled for another few months.

This is a disappearing nine patch quilt that I made from some Cherry on Top charms that I had. I found the tutorial here at MSQC

This is a quick and easy pattern to sew up.  My favorite! I used two charm packs and then some of the aqua colored fabric that I had in my stash to use in the center of each of the nine patch blocks.

I quilted this top on my Janome using a wavy line.
I liked the way it turned out. So soft!

One down and several more to finish up!

What have you been working on this week? I'd like to hear.

Scripture Sunday!

Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped
trying to hide them. I said to myself,
"I will confess my rebellion to the Lord."
And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
Psalm 32:5 NLT

Don't let guilt and pride keep you from
confessing and accepting God's forgiveness.

Pinwheel Coasters!

I made these cute little pinwheel coasters for my mom and dad for their anniversary this year. There anniversary is July 4th.  Coasters always come in handy as a small gift and these made up quickly in just a couple of hours.

I chose a couple of fat quarters from my stash and cut 2 - 3 inch strips  off of each.

I then cut each strip into 3 inch squares.

I only needed 8 of the 3 inch squares from each fabric...so I had some left over for another project.

With ruler and pencil, I drew a diagonal line from corner to corner on the the back side of the light colored fabric.

Draw the diagonal line on each of the 8 squares.

Take a light square and dark square, right sides together and sew 1/4 inch on each side of the diagonal line. Do this to all of your squares.
You should have 8 pairs.

With your ruler and rotary cutter, or scissors, whichever you prefer...cut on the diagonal line.

That will give you this cute little half square triangle block. You will have 16 of these little blocks.

You will take 4 of the little hst blocks and lay them out  to make a pinwheel block.

Sew 2 of the hst blocks to make this little section.

Then sew these 2 pairs together to make your block.

You can square up your little pinwheel blocks and measure. Then cut a backing fabric the same measurement. Place the pinwheel block and your backing fabric...right sides together...lay a piece of batting on top...

I cut a square of batting a 1/2 inch smaller all the way around than my backing and pinwheel block.
Layer the backing and top with right sides together, batting on top. Sew around the edge with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, leave a 2 inch opening to turn your block right side out.

I pressed the block...sewed an x from diagonal to diagonal...then sewed a decorative stitch around the outside edge...making sure that the opening was stitched closed with the stitch.

This made 4 coasters. I could have taken the left over squares and made a couple more...but 4 seemed like a good number!

These little coasters were quick to make and are great little hostess gifts or a nice addition for your own home.

Experiment with your favorite colors or colors of the season.

Happy sewing!

Scripture Sunday!

Praise the Lord! Happy are those who fear the Lord.
Yes, happy are those who delight in doing what he
commands.

Their children will be successful everywhere;
an entire generation of godly people will be blessed.

They themselves will be wealthy,
and their good deeds will  never be forgotten.
Psalm 112:1-3 NLT

Behind the Seams Saturday...

I found an old window frame in a resale shop and was entrigued by the size of it.  I had been looking for a large picture frame so that I could make a large design board to place on my sewing room wall.

I brought the frame home, painted it this pretty blue color, added some little wooden decor fans to the top of it and some coat hooks, just in case I want to hang some cute little ribbons or something...

I measured my frame, then cut some foam board to fit the back of the frame. I covered the foam board with some quilt batting. I used a regular stapler and stapled the batting around the edges. But you could use duck tape or a hot glue gun to afix the batting to the the foam board.

I then used a heavy duty staple gun and stapled the batting covered foam board to the the back of the frame, so that the batting side of the board showed through the frame opening.

My husband then screwed some picture hanging hardware to the back of the window frame and hung it on my sewing studio wall.

I just love my design board!

The cute little quilt blocks are designs that I made from Lori Holt's new book "Farm Girl Vintage."

Food and Family!

One of my family's favorite one dish meals when my kids were all at home was Spanish Rice.

This recipe came from my mom, who made it when her kids were all at home.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do!

Spanish Rice
1 pound of ground beef
1- 8oz. can of tomato sauce
1 cup of instant rice, uncooked
1 1/2 cup of water
1 small green bell pepper, chopped
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
1 can of whole kernel corn, drained
salt to taste

In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion and bell pepper till meat is done. Drain grease, return to skillet, add tomato sauce, corn, water and instant rice. Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, cover with lid. Simmer for 5 minutes, turn off heat. Let rest for 5 minutes and serve hot.

We like it served with garlic toast or flour tortillas.
Enjoy!

Food and Family!

My kids are all grown and on their own now. But I like that they call to talk or send me texts and pictures of the grandkids everyday. But what I enjoy even more is when they all get to come and visit from whatever part of the country that they are working in at the time.

This past week they were all home and we enjoyed being together for laughter and food. One night we had catfish, fried potatoes and coleslaw. So simple, and yet so tasty and enjoyed by all.

FISH COATING
3 cups white cornmeal mix
1 Tablespoon garlic powder
1 Tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika

Mix the ingredients well. Roll fish fillets in the coating and place in hot grease in your deep fryer and cook till golden brown.

This recipe coated about 6 pounds of catfish fillets.

The fried potatoes were delicious and enjoyed by all. I used the yukon gold potatoes. Washed then cut them into bite sized pieces with skins on. Placed in a large skillet with hot oil in the bottom of it and added a chopped up yellow onion and a cleaned and chopped green bell pepper. Add salt and pepper, place lid on skillet. Cook over medium heat, turning potatoes occasionally to prevent sticking and burning. Cook till potatoes are tender. Place in colander to drain the grease...then enjoy!

Mini Charm Table Runner

I made this quick little table runner using a couple of mini charm packs that I had in my stash.  I really
enjoy the fun spring colors.

First I matched the little 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" charms into pairs to make a 2 patch unit.

Then chain piece them together, using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.  Clip the pairs apart, and press the seams.

Next, sew 2 pairs together, end to end to make a 4 patch unit.

Then add a 2 block unit to a 4 block unit, end to end, to make a 6 block unit.

This is a good project to use the chain piecing technique.

Each 6 charm unit is one row.
Make 14 rows.

Arrange the rows till your pleased with the placement.

Sew the rows together.

Quilt as desired.
I used this quick and easy little squiggly line to quilt my
table runner.

I used this little floral print fabric from my stash for the backing.  The wiggly quilting lines really showed up nicely on the back.

My husband pointed out that this little table runner could be reversible.

My husband really knows how to encourage me!
Every woman should be so blessed to have a husband like mine!

Works in Progress...

While reorganizing my sewing room...or my fabric pantry, as my husband calls it... I kept pulling out a lot of flimsies and other UFO's.

I decided to make a list and I wrote down what still needed to be done to these items to take them from the works in progress status to the "Finished!" status.

Wow!!! I need to stop starting new projects and get busy finishing!

I've noticed that I seem to do better, complete more projects when they are listed on my to do list. But if not on my list and stuck in a drawer or closet...they become out of sight, out of mind.

I hate resolutions...I do like a challenge though.
So, I think I shall challenge myself to finish these UFO's or WIP list before the end of this year. I guess this will be my 2015 Challenge.

Now...just to figure out where to start!

How do you keep your UFO/WIP list manageable?

Needle Cushion Tutorial

Have you ever needed to switch to a different thread and needed to use a different size needle for that thread? But you don't want to put that good used needle in with the new needles in the package?

How do you keep track of the different sizes after they come out of the package?

A friend of mine had a tomato pin cushion that she wrote the different sizes of her needles in each section using a sharpie.  When she has to change needles, she just places the good used one in the correct section of the tomato.

I didn't have a tomato pin cushion, so I decided to make my own needle cushion with some fabric scraps.

I had these little dresden plate wedges left over from another project.

I sewed them into pairs using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. I pressed the seams toward the darker fabric.

Then I sewed the pairs together. Then again pressed the seam.

I had this yellow print in my stash. I cut a 3 x 5 inch piece for the backing for my needle cushion.

Then with the top and back laying right sides together, sew a 1/4 inch seam allowance using the pieced top as my guide. I left one end open.  Then trimmed the backing to be even with the top after I stitched around the top.

Turn the cushion right side out...I used my purple thang to push the corners out.
Using my micron pen, I wrote the needle sizes that I use the most in different sections.

Then I stuffed the cushion with some left-over batting. Turned the opening under and pinned. Then I stitched the opening closed by hand.

This is a picture of my finished needle cushion with a couple of good used needles in it.

How do you keep your needles separate when having to switch needle and thread during a project?
